Lancashire Schools Energy Reduction Project
CLASP supported a number of local authority led projects in 2010/11 including two which ran small pilot energy reduction projects with schools. Both of these projects worked with schools with poor DEC ratings, but tried different approaches. There have been mixed results, but both short summaries are well worth reading for the insights they provide for future projects.
Over 50% of Lancashire County Council's carbon emissions (as measured under NI 185) come from the county's 633 schools. This project targeted schools with a low F or G rating in their Display Energy Certificate. The project was delivered by the Council’s own engineers who helped the schools make simple changes to their heating controls and involved pupils in meter monitoring, and energy saving behaviours.
