CLASP supported a number of local authority led projects in 2010/11 including two which ran small pilot energy reduction projects with schools.  Both of these projects worked with schools with poor DEC ratings, but tried different approaches.  There have been mixed results, but both short summaries are well worth reading for the insights they provide for future projects.

Rochdale targeted a small number of schools with a poor DEC certificate rating, assessing their estate, producing an action plan, and assisting with delivery of key projects, including workshops for teachers and pupil led assemblies. 

Whilst the savings quantified so far are modest this pilot project has equipped the Council with a better understanding of the challenges schools face, how to establish and maintain communications and a range of other considerations that other authorities considering similar projects should learn from.
