Supporting Rural Communities - Low Carbon Energy Planning
Many communities in the Lake District National Park have expressed an interest in looking at renewable energy generation and energy efficiency measures within their communities, but many struggle to know how to take these ideas forward, often finding the enormity of the challenge overwhelming. The Lake District National Park Authority were successful in obtaining funding from CLASP to undertake work to address this between March 2014 and January 2015. They employed Cumbria Action for Sustainability to deliver the project with them.
This project provided three communities in the National Park with the assistance they needed to help them take ownership of their own energy futures. It provided much needed structured advice and support to overcome the barriers that are stopping activity, enabling community groups to progress from initial ideas, and towards having a clear plan for action, including sourcing for funding to get projects on the ground.
Want To Try This Approach?
To support the delivery of the project a 3-dimensional model was built, for use in community workshops. This model is now freely available for other groups and projects to borrow. If you are interested in following this approach please read the following information and contact ailsa@claspinfo.org
